Dr. Julie Reck

Dr. Julie Reck was naturally drawn to animals at an early age. She was born into a family dedicated to serving the U.S Army and moved approximately every 2 years of her childhood. Frequent moving and painful goodbyes with friends, made the family's four-legged members one the few constants in Dr. Reck's childhood. Her strong relationships with the family's Collies and horses taught her the importance of the human-animal bond.

The time she spent with animals in her childhood inspired her to become a doctor devoted to helping animals. Upon graduating high school, she enrolled at Virginia Tech were she devoted herself to her studies and the pursuit of a degree in veterinary medicine. Her hard work was rewarded with an early acceptance to Virginia Tech's College of Veterinary Medicine. She was the second youngest student accepted in the history of the college. She received her doctorate in veterinary medicine in May 2007.

After receiving her degree, Dr. Reck searched the country for an ideal area to practice veterinary medicine. Born in Georgia, she felt a strong connection to the South and chose Charlotte, NC. She began her career practicing small animal medicine and surgery in Charlotte. In March 2009, she was given the opportunity to work with the Humane Society of Charlotte. Dr. Reck is a full time surgeon at the Humane Society of Charlotte. She performs 5,500 spays and neuters per year, helping to reduce the homeless pet population. she also performs more advanced soft tissue and orthopedic procedures on animals in the shelter to improve their quality of life and increase their chances of finding a permanent home.

Dr. Reck had numerous requests for in-home euthanasia while in private small animal practice. She and her husband formed Home Farewell to serve pets and their owners throughout Charlotte. While it is a difficult calling, Dr. Reck is dedicated to relieving an animal's suffering in the comfort of their home or bed.

Dr. Reck and her husband reside in Charlotte with their two Australian shepherds, Simon and Icarus. They also have a rescued cat named Abigail.
